The flame burns bright

Nearly finished is this cracking piece of Holly I found downed in a wood whilst stravaging one afternoon.
It had been crushed under a large Beech that had come down in a storm. So with pruning saw in hand I sought it a new home.
After drying it for a while I started to remove some of the bark in a pattern I'd sketched onto it. But as my design came to fruition I found that it looked forced and unnatural amongst it's already stunning form. So I decided to remove all the bark from the back. Sand it up super smooth and leave the fringes on the gaping central section.
The result of which I'm really pleased with. It was a great process of to and fro and I realised you've really got to let the wood speak for itself.
Now to get some light fixtures inside and see what she's like lit up!
